How to setup the Linksys Wireless Range Extender

Accessing internet while lying on your very comfortable bed is what we think to be the idea of a perfect holiday these days. A lot of people however dread this due to the harsh reality that the internet router they own does not extend its signal wide enough to cover all the areas or rooms of your apartment or house. This problem of facing dead zones is faced by many in large numbers which is why Linksys brought forward the solution to intermittent connectivity and dead zones.

The Linksys wireless Range extender has been used extensively and has been known to be the solution of connectivity problems. A Range extender can effectively share the internet and the wireless range of your home router and can share it with you across the farthest corners of your house. They are extremely useful and are easy to setup.

A Linksys Wireless Range Extender can be easily setup in your home following the below-mentioned steps:

Step 1: Before starting you need to know about a few details of your personal Wi-Fi router. These details include knowing your Wireless name or the SSID, the wireless channel it’s working on and the wireless password or the security key.
Step 2: Next reset the Wireless Range Extender to clean it off any previous settings it’s been working on by pressing the reset button for 5 seconds.
Step 3: Connect your wireless range extender with a PC or a laptop using an Ethernet cable
Step 4: To power on your Range Extender, connect the device to a power source. Before performing the next step, make sure your range extender has successfully powered on by seeing the LED lights being stable.
Step 5: Fire up any web browser in your PC or laptop and get the access to the web-based setup page of your Range extender. Do this by entering the IP address in the address bar.
Step 6: You will be asked the username and the password of the device. Simply keep the username field blank and enter “admin” as the password in the password field. Click Login.
Step 7: next we need to enter the wireless settings for your range extender to work on. For this, go to wireless and find the basic wireless settings option.
Step 8: Move the selection of configuration view to manual and enter the network name or the SSID as per your internet router.
Step 9: Next you need to select the wireless security and to do that head over to the wireless security option. You can choose between all the three, WPA2 Personal, WPA personal or the WEP security setting and enter the password to login to the range extender network and Click on save settings.
Step 10: To make sure the settings have been saved and to give the range extender a quick refresh. Unplug the power cable and keep it unplugged for at least 30 seconds. Reconnect the power and you can now use your range extender as per your requirements.
